Obituary for Lillie Atwater Owens

Lillie Atwater Pippen Owens, 85, wife of Dallas Earlington Owens passed from this earth to a place eternal life on Sunday, April 1, 2018. She was born and reared in Durham, North Carolina, the daughter of Jessie Markham and the Excell Atwater.
She was previously married to James E. Pippen Sr. who is deceased, there were three children of this union, Nannette Jordan (Larry), Nolan Pippen (Deborah), James E. Pippen, Jr. who is deceased.
Lillie married Dallas Owens, Sr. in 1954, Dallas who had embarked on a career in the military, so Lillie traveled with him to many countries, from Japan to Germany and other countries in between. They had two sons, Dallas Owens Jr., and Keith.
They settled in Lexington, KY after his retirement, residing there thirty two years. She attended the University of Kentucky, and later graduated from the Appalachian School of Practical Nursing. She spent twenty five years aiding those in need of her services. She was a faithful member of the First African Baptist Church, serving as usher, the culinary committee, bus coordinator, director of senior activities. She assisted Dallas in the missionary outreach coordination. She worked with Meals on Wheels as well as food distribution as needed, she served with hospice as needed, and private duty nursing. Lillie was willing to help were her services were needed.
In addition to her loving husband Lillie is survived by her three children, Nannette Jordan (Larry), Nolan Pippen (Deborah), Keith Owens, one sister, Margie Dean Thompson, numerous grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. Lillie’s family will celebrate her home coming. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sons, Dallas Owens Jr., and James Pippen.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 6, 2018 from 11:00 AM -12:00 PM at First African Baptist Church, located at 465 Price Rd. Lexington, KY 40508. Funeral Services will be conducted at 12:00 PM on Friday, April 6, 2018 also at First African Baptist Church. Burial will follow the service Camp Nelson National Cemetery.
