Obituary for Jean Sudduth Richeson

Jean Sudduth Richeson, 93, passed away on Wednesday, July 4th, 2018. She was born the youngest of six children, on a farm in rural Clark County, KY in 1924 to Ida Miller Tanner Sudduth and William Van Meter Sudduth. She grew up in Winchester, KY where she had an idyllic small town childhood, enjoying swimming, tennis, hockey, cheerleading, and exploring the nearby countryside and caves.

Jean graduated from Kentucky Wesleyan College in 1946 where she
majored in Physical Education. While there, she met her husband of 56
years, King Richeson, a WWII veteran and education major. She taught
Physical Education at the University of Kentucky and Greenbrier College
before marrying in 1949. They lived in Lexington, Jackson, Midway and
Versailles, KY where he taught Biology and she taught Kindergarten, Head
Start and home bound students. They had two daughters, Margaret and

Jean was very active in volunteer groups in Woodford County including
Girl Scouts, The Midway and Versailles Presbyterian Churches, food and
clothing banks, retired teachers associations, Woodford County Women’s
Club, and P.E.O. She attended WWII ship reunions with her husband until
his death in 2006.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ida Miller Tanner Sudduth and
William Van Meter Sudduth, her husband, King Richeson, two sisters,
Elizabeth Sudduth Ginger and Ruth Sudduth Fishback, two brothers,
Joseph Sudduth and William Sudduth Jr. She is survived by one sister
Anna Laura Sudduth Codell , two children, Margaret Richeson Macemon
(Bob) and Sue Ann Richeson Finley (Bob), three grandchildren, Michael
Macemon (Rebecca), Kimberly Macemon Densmore (Cameron) and Selina
Finley and two great grandchildren, Nora Macemon and Martin Macemon.

The family is deeply grateful to the staff of the Altenheim Senior Health
Care Community in Louisville for their exceptional care and attention for
the past eight years.

A memorial service is planned for Sunday, August 5th, 2:00 pm at Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home, with a gathering to follow the service.
