Biography

Azelda Barkett, 92, the mother of John Barkett of Versailles, died on Monday, March 8 at Taylor Manor Nursing Home. Born in Bridgeport, CT, she was a daughter of the late Mahana and Rebecca Mousa Zahra and was the widow of the late John S. Barkett Sr. who died in the early 1940's. She lived in Miami, FL for many years where she owned and operated a grocery business and raised her son. She was a Catholic and in addition to her son is survived by his wife, her daughter-in-law, Bunny Barkett of Versailles, five grandchildren Kelly Miklas of Versailles, John Roy (Lora) Barkett of Atlanta, GA, Fr. James Barkett of Virginia, Lt. Col Michael Thomas (Rebecca) Barkett of Virginia, Sr. Elizabeth Ann Barkett of Walton, KY and nine great grandchildren.
